Flatter Your Features: Broad Shoulders

When we style our clients with broad shoulders, our goal is to carefully choose pieces that balance their proportions and help them look their best. If you have broad shoulders, be sure to let your Stylist know in your Style Profile so they can be sure to style you in pieces that work best with your body type. If you’re not sure if you have broad shoulders, here are some tips to help you figure it out!

You might have broad shoulders if:

•Your shoulders are wider than your hips
•Blazers and jackets sometimes pull too tightly across the back
•Shoulder seams land on or above your shoulder (closer to your neck) instead of right at your shoulder

Dress to Enhance

A classic wrap dress is the perfect silhouette to enhance your shape. Choose an average to deep V-neck to draw the eye away from your upper half and create length. Dresses with empire waists and A-line skirts that float away from your body give you the opportunity to show off your legs.

Shape and Define

Look for tops that nip in at the waist to add shape to your torso. You can also look for pieces that have design details along the V neckline to draw the eye towards your center while softening your shape. Choose jackets that are structured at the waist with darting or a belt and have wide lapels. Jackets that hit at the hip-bone are the most flattering on your body type!

Balance with Volume

Boot cut or wide-leg pants will create balance between your lower and upper halves. Full or A-line skirts also create volume and balance your shoulders while adding a touch of volume and movement!
